Northeast District Police Chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the boy suffered injuries on his back and legs.
“The boy’s mother, 33, claimed the boy was hit because he did not listen to his father’s orders.
“She brought him to the Penang Hospital for treatment. The boy is in stable condition.
“The mother lodged a report today. We then detained the 39-year-old father at home today,” he told reporters.
Mior said a rattan cane and a clothes hanger used to hit the boy were seized as evidence.
He added the man has been remanded for three days to be investigated for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means under the Penal Code.
