GEORGE TOWN:
Why don’t you sue the Penang Government for providing false information instead?
This is the question Parti Cinta Malaysia Vice-President Huan Cheng Guan is asking Consortium Zenith BUCG Sdn Bhd (CZBUCG), the company which is constructing a RM6.3 billion undersea tunnel and three paired roads.

Earlier today, CZBUCG Chairman Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli announced it would sue Huan for defaming the company after the latter questioned the veracity of its shareholders.

Huan had recently lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, claiming the sudden “disappearance and dilution” of a Chinese company.

He claimed when the original deal was inked, the Chinese company held a substantial stake in the company, but recent checks with the Companies Commission revealed otherwise.

Huan wondered if CZBUCG was suing the wrong person and suggested the consortium direct its lawsuit at the Penang Government as it was the state, in a statement it issued, that suggested that China Railway Construction Company (CRCC) will become a joint shareholder

“It is also a fact that based on the latest available Companies Commission information on CZBUCG shareholdings, as at May 2016, there was no indication of CRCC as a shareholder in either CZBUCG or Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd,” he said in a statement today.

Huan said the statement, dated March 4, 2013, was made by State Secretary Farizan Darus and State Finance Officer Mokhtar Jait.

Earlier today, Zarul had said the company had no choice but to take legal action as its tarnished reputation was affecting the confidence of its financiers.

He said CZBUCG had been transparent, explaining what had taken place over the past three years.
