GEORGE TOWN:
Kedah Menteri Besar Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah underwent surgery on his intestines at the Penang General Hospital late last night.

Bashah’s political secretary Shaiful Hazizi Zainol Abidin said the MB went into the operating room at 10pm, hours after being transferred to the Penang GH from the Kedah Medical Centre, which is a private hospital in Alor Star.

“He is stable and is currently resting,” Shaiful said, adding that the surgery finished at about 3am today.

On Saturday, Bashah was taken to hospital after complaining of dizziness and collapsing while at a meeting with state assemblymen the day before.

He was placed in the intensive care unit (ICU) and was initially reported to be stable.

On Sunday, Kedah state secretary Bakar Din was quoted by Bernama as saying that Bashah was suffering from an intestinal complication and that it was not serious.

Bakar had added that the Kedah MB was only placed in the ICU to benefit from treatment by specialists and that “once his condition was back to normal, in a day or two, he would be transferred to the normal ward for further observation”.
