Death would have benefited Huckle, says longhouse chief

Chief of Bukit Kiara longhouse, where the convicted paedophile once stayed, says Huckle would have plenty of time to reflect on his wrongdoings while serving his life sentences in prison.

PETALING JAYA:
A death sentence would have been the easy way out for British paedophile Richard Huckle.

Bukit Kiara longhouse chief V Sunderam expressed this view on the 22 life sentences imposed on Huckle for sex crimes committed against 23 Malaysian children, yesterday, China Press reported.

Huckle had stayed in the Bukit Kiara longhouse for some time before he was chased out for forcing a girl to pose nude.

Sunderam said a life sentence was the most suitable for Huckle as it would give the latter plenty of time to reflect on his wrongdoings while in prison.

According to him, a team of policemen from the Kuala Lumpur police headquarters had come to the longhouse to speak to him and other residents, and found that no child there had fallen victim to Huckle.

Huckle, dubbed Britain’s worst paedophole, was sentenced to 22 life sentences for committing sexual crimes against children between 2006 and 2014.

The 30-year-old admitted to committing 71 out of 91 charges against him and police found over 20,000 pornographic images of children in his possession.
