Saadah Awang, 64, had rushed to help neighbour Rohima Ahmad, 57, rescue her centenarian mother Hitam Yaakob after the house caught fire at about 2pm.
Rohima said she was about to help her mother bathe when she saw sparks at the fusebox of her rented double-storey wooden house.
“I shouted for help and Saadah and her son-in-law came running and helped carry my mother to safety. Then, I rushed back into the house to fetch my three grandchildren, aged two, five and nine.
“I also asked my 12-year-old daughter Siti Nurbahiyah Abdullah to run out,” she said.
Saadah, who had rented the house to Rohima, was safe despite the 10% burns she suffered, Rohima said, adding that she wondered how she would observe the Ramadan fasting month and celebrate Aidilfitri.
Fire and Rescue operations chief Arizal Mahmud said firemen put out the blaze in about 10 minutes and found Saadah injured in the face and sent her to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital.
