Dang Wangi Police Chief ACP Zainol Samah said the suspects, aged between 20 and 30, were arrested at Central Market here at 10.45am the same day in an operation dubbed “Ops Kesan” by a team from the Tun H S Lee police station.
Police hauled up all the suspects about 15 minutes after the incident based on the descriptions given by the victim, as well as closed-circuit television camera (CCTV) recordings in the vicinity, he said.
“The victim claimed that one of the suspects had punched him in the mouth after taking his smartphone and RM500,” he told a press conference here today.
Zainol said the suspects were believed to be heading to Central Market to sell the smartphone but were nabbed while on their way there.
Earlier, Zainol had presented certificates of appreciation to six members of the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB), who had successfully made numerous arrests while on duty around the Bukit Bintang and Kota Raya areas in the city.
