Judge S Indra Nehru also fined Termizi Mohamad RM15,000 in default six months’ jail for offering RM3,000 to Abdul Majid Mohamed at Rancangan Perkampungan Tersusun Tekah Baru, Kampung Kepayang, at 1.30am on March 24.
Termizi, 69, admitted to committing the offence as an inducement to release his worker who was detained for entering Malaysia without valid documents.
Earlier, in mitigation, counsel Kathan Maruthamuthu told the court that Termizi had served in the army for 29 years.
“He is only receiving RM1,200 monthly as pension and suffers from diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease and has to undergo follow-up treatment every four months.
“He also has to support a wife who is ill and two granddaughters, aged seven and five, as their only son had passed away in 2012 due to brain cancer,” he said.
However, Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurul Wahida Jalaluddin, from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence based on the seriousness of the offence, and to forfeit the RM3,000.
Termizi paid the fine.
