PETALING JAYA: Despite advice from concerned residents that the treacherous monsoon drain was way too risky to descend into, Chen Pei Zhen, 36, put her fears aside and climbed in so she could save three puppies from a possible death by drowning.

Animal-lovers online are now praising Chen for both her bravery and compassion as pictures of her standing almost knee-deep in drain water holding the three soaked pups have gone viral on Facebook.

“I just rescued three puppies, no need for such a big hoo-haa,” The Star Online reported, citing Chinese daily Sin Chew Daily.

It was also reported that Chen got wind of the stranded puppies on Sunday after someone reported it on Facebook. She was at her mother-in-law’s home in Kajang at the time.

Responding with urgency, Chen hopped into her car and rushed to the site, borrowing a ladder from a kind resident nearby so she could descend into the three-metre deep monsoon drain.

“After bringing the puppies out, I cleaned them at a house nearby before sending them to an animal shelter,” she was quoted as saying by the daily.

Thanks to Chen’s selfless act, three little lives have now been saved. FMT hopes the three are successfully re-homed to caring adopters.
