Legal action will be taken if dental clinic erred, says Subra

Health minister says a post-mortem is underway on DPM's son-in-law and action will be taken against the dental clinic if there was any error on their part.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Health Minister S Subramaniam says legal action will be taken against a dental clinic if the results of a post-mortem reveal unprofessional conduct or other irregularities relating to the death of the Deputy Prime Minister’s son-in-law Syed Alman Zain Syed Alwi

He, however, said it was too early for him to comment on the incident in any greater detail.

“My condolences to his family. It’s a tragic incident to occur to a healthy person like him,” he said at a press conference today.

He told reporters that a post-mortem was underway and action would be taken against the dental clinic if there was any error on its part.

“The legal process will be used if there is any discrepancy or unprofessional conduct under the Dental Act 1971,” he said.

Syed Alman, 44, died at the University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) last night, after being rushed there around 7pm when he fell unconscious while undergoing treatment at a dental clinic in Bangsar.

Syed Alman, the husband of Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid, also leaves behind three children – Arjuna Iskandar. Zaheed Alwi and Khadeeja Sofea.
