KOTA BARU:
Non-Muslims will eventually lose interest in the DAP and its brand of fiery politics, says PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz.

Speaking at a press conference, Nik Abduh said as part of a third political bloc, PAS could work with any party, as long as there was mutual respect between both parties.

He cited Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) as an example, following the party’s comments on PAS’ efforts to amend the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965.

He said PCM had called for non-Muslims to listen first before reacting, and this showed respect between Malaysians.

“This is why I feel even though DAP has a lot of support, the support from non-Muslims will recede,
“I am confident that non-Muslims do not like fiery politics which touch on religion.”

He said that many Muslims in Malaysia supported the proposed amendments, hence there was no need for DAP to play with fire.

He added that the proposed amendments would actually help ensure the safety of non-Muslims.

Nik Abduh lambasted the DAP as being arrogant, adding the party did not even realise it was arrogant.

“Who started attacking the PAS president? Who broke up PAS? Who made some PAS leaders so drunk for power that they set up Amanah? It was all DAP,” he said, adding that this was proof that the DAP was arrogant.

He was responding to claims that he was arrogant for saying PAS should take back the seats loaned to DAP and PKR to contest in the elections.

On that matter, Nik Abduh said it should not be taken literally.

He explained he had used “bahasa kiasan” (figure of speech) to make his point.

“What I meant was that we consider contesting in seats which we had contested before.”

He said in the past the DAP and PAS had squared off in three cornered fights but when a political pact was forged, PAS gave way to the DAP and PKR to contest in a straight fight with the Barisan Nasional.

Earlier today DAP lawmaker Anthony Loke challenged Nik Abduh to reveal which seats PAS allegedly loaned to PKR and DAP in the 2013 General Election.

Yesterday, Nik Abduh called on the PAS leadership to take back seats the Islamist party had loaned to former Pakatan Rakyat allies PKR and DAP, in his speech at the PAS Youth wing’s muktamar.

Subsequently, PAS Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said the party leadership would review PAS Youth’s proposal.
