This was true for Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin who felt that way when he arrived in Tokyo, Japan, for an official visit.
Sharing a snippet of his childhood days with his Instagram followers yesterday, Khairy recalled how he lived there between the ages of five and 10 while his father worked at the Malaysian Embassy at that time.
Stating how the visit made him feel nostalgic and sentimental, Khairy said he had great memories of growing up in Tokyo.
“I thought it would be nice to start off my visit by paying homage to my late old man,” Khairy wrote, sharing a picture of himself wearing a floral tie.
What he meant as homage was that the tie he wore used to belong to his late father.
“The tie I am wearing today was his tie that he got in Tokyo some 30 plus years ago. It’s a classic floral design made by Hanae Mori that was typical of 1980s Japan.
“I still remember him wearing it to office when I was a young boy,” the Umno Youth chief recalled.

In the post, Khairy noted how the ‘vintage tie’ he was wearing was not the kind people would pick up at a flea market or a hipster shop, but rather one that had meaning and heritage.
“The kind of vintage that you pass on to the next generation, which reminds me of where I came from, and pay tribute to the greatest man I’ve ever known,” he said, ending the post.
Instagram user ssarahnliyana commented, “And one day, if I see any of your son’s wearing this tie and post something deep like this, I know I am already old.”
Meanwhile, sheemi.mayanti said, “That’s a heartfelt tribute. The ‘lump-in-throat’ kind. And the tie is gorgeous.”
