Lim said the announcement by Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai that the proposed SkyCab project “was off” came as a shock, as there was no official announcement on it yet.
Lim said the pattern shows that the Federal Government might axe Penang Government’s third bridge plan, too.
“The cable car project, including the Penang Sentral terminus in Butterworth, is undertaken by Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB), a federal-linked company.
“Why does he (Liow) not want to approve even a federal project?
“Even MRCB is shocked as it was in constant meetings (with the federal transport regulators), and the company did not know the project had been called off.” Lim told reporters in Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan, here today.
Yesterday, Liow announced that the proposed 5km cable car alignment between the island and mainland was “rejected”, as the route may interrupt regular shipping routes.
Meanwhile, Lim urged Liow not to make decisions based on political reasons.
“I regret it has come to this. I hope Liow did not make such a statement due to political reasons.
“I ask him (Liow) to be rational, don’t be uptight (melenting) due to political reasons.
“We do not want to play politics. I would like Liow to not behave like a penjajah (colonialist).
“Even federal projects are rejected, that is why I feel we have been colonialised,” Lim said.
