BUKIT MERTAJAM: A veterinary officer was sentenced to eight months’ jail and a RM2,000 fine for slapping his wife in a private hospital lift here three years ago.

Mohamad Affandi Ismail, 39, was found guilty of voluntarily causing harm to his first wife Siti Khadijah Ahmad Ramli, 40, a factory worker.

Magistrate Mohd Fitri Sadardin handed down the sentence, saying the defence failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution.

“It is not right to slap your wife. You have done that in front of your own children, which is also unacceptable,” Fitri said while delivering his judgment.

Affandi was accused of having voluntarily caused harm to Khadijah at the KPJ Hospital in Bandar Perda, here, at about 4pm on Aug 12, 2013.

The offence under the Penal Code carries a maximum one-year jail, up to RM2,000 fine or both upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamaliza Md Zain prosecuted while R Palaniappan appeared for the defendant.
