Police seek witnesses to assault involving Kedah rep

Police have asked the people involved in recording the video footage and civilians seen breaking up the fight to come forward and assist in the investigation.

ALOR SETAR: Police are seeking the cooperation of those with information on the incident where a state assemblyman was alleged to have assaulted a man on May 15, to come forward to facilitate investigations.

Kedah deputy police chief Abd Jalil Hassan said investigations under Section 323 of the Penal Code were still ongoing and they had recorded statements from both parties involved to complete the investigation papers.

“We will also take a statement from the doctor who treated the victim and we are now asking witnesses at the scene, especially the two civilians on a motorcycle who were seen trying to break up the fight in a video footage.

“We also ask the individual who recorded the video to come forward and give a statement at the nearest police station.

“The police will conduct their investigation in a transparent and fair manner to identify who was at fault,” he said after a passing out ceremony of Police Volunteer Reserve Constables at the Kedah Police Contingent Headquarters here today.

In the incident which occurred at 5.45pm on May 15, a man, identified as Alif Adam Mohd Munaim, claimed that he was dragged out of his vehicle and beaten up by three individuals, including the assemblyman.
