In a press conference at the Klang Parole Office today, Khir said those who claimed he received special treatment while in custody, can check the prison record books themselves.
“In prison, there are about 200 rules. You can’t lift your leg, you can’t sing. I have never broken a single rule.
“I was monitored for almost six months and my every movement was recorded every half hour. So claims that I was treated differently in jail are untrue,” said Khir.
He also spoke about the circle of life, which saw him enter prison to give dental care to prisoners when he was a dentist, to a prisoner himself.
“I used to go to the prison to provide dental services to inmates. Then, I went in as a prisoner, that’s the circle of life.
The former Sungai Panjang assemblyman also appealed to families of inmates to pay them visits.
He said he even came across inmates who have not had family members or relatives visit them in the last 10 years.
“When no one visits, there are no clothes to change and soaps to use. I beg them (families), don’t neglect your kin in prison, they need help,” said Khir, adding that he would discuss with friends about establishing a foundation to help abandoned prisoners.
