In a Facebook posting, the victim said the incident occurred on May 15 at 5.45pm.
At the time, he claimed he was driving out of Aman Central in Alor Star and was about to enter the middle lane in front of the shopping centre.
Suddenly, he claimed, the driver of a Toyota Harrier honked at him and drove to his left.
It was claimed that the state assemblyman, in his 50s, was in the Harrier.
“At the time, the traffic light was red. The driver (of the Harrier) opened his window and repeatedly said: ‘Don’t you know who I am?’ He asked me to get out of my car. I declined to do so.”
The victim claimed one of the men in the Harrier got down and opened his car door, yanking out the car key from the ignition.
“The man then punched me in the mouth. As a result of that, my mouth was injured.
“Then the man pulled my hand, forcing me to get out of the car and when I did, I punched him.”
He claimed that two men in their 20s then got out of the Harrier and all three began hitting him.
“My girlfriend got out of the car and attempted to break up the fight. However, my girlfriend was also punched in the chest and hands.
“Those in the area came forward to break the fight up. The car (Harrier) then left the scene of the incident.
“I took my girlfriend to the Kedah Medical Centre in Alor Setar as she was having difficulty breathing.”
A Harian Metro report stated that Kota Setar District Police Chief Asst Comm Mohd Rozi Jidin confirmed the incident, stating that investigations were under way to determine the identity of the assailants.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
FMT tried to contact the assemblyman allegedly involved but failed to get a response at press time.
