Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar

KUALA LUMPUR:
The services of Abdul Wahid Omar as a senator and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department will end on June 4, said Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Najib said when accepting the appointments in 2013, Abdul Wahid had stated his intention to serve for only one term.

“I accept Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid’s decision to return to the corporate sector as had been agreed in 2013.

“Nevertheless, Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid will continue to remain as a member of the Economic Council which is chaired by me each week,” he said in a statement here today.

Najib said the decision was relayed to the Cabinet today and that he had recorded his appreciation to Abdul Wahid over the latter’s contributions.

“I believe and am confident Senator Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid will continue to contribute towards efforts to develop the nation,” he said.

Abdul Wahid was appointed as a senator on June 5, 2013 and subsequently as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department responsible for the Economic Planning Unit.
