In a brief statement, the popular fast-food franchise said it had given authorities full access to interview its personnel and view CCTV recordings on the day of the alleged incident.
“We believe that our strong cooperation has contributed to the authorities being able to conduct a speedy investigation leading to the arrest of a suspect.”
McDonald’s, it added, took the welfare and safety of its customers very seriously and wanted to see the perpetrator “brought to justice.”
“Our hearts go out to the victim and we pray for her well-being and speedy recovery.”
Yesterday, police said they arrested a man, in his late 20s, who is believed to have attempted to rape a young woman in the restroom of the fast food restaurant.
Johor Bahru South Police apprehended the suspect at the outlet itself, where he is a part-time employee.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and Section 354 of the same Act for molesting.
In the incident, the young woman escaped from the suspect who attempted to sexually assault her in the bathroom of the restaurant last Friday morning.
The victim was grooming herself in front of a mirror in the washroom when the suspect grabbed her from behind and covered her mouth before dragging her into the toilet reserved for disabled patrons.
Fortunately for her, she spotted another patron walking into the washroom and let out a scream, which scared the suspect, who fled with the girl’s handbag.
The victim suffered bruises to her face and body.
