PETALING JAYA:
The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has received the go-ahead to introduce FIFA’s Early Warning System (EWS) for free.

The Star reported that the EWS system could be used to monitor irregular betting patterns when football games were played.

FAM hopes to use the system when the Malaysia League games resume in August.

The EWS system was used during the FIFA World Cup.

FAM is excited to use it as it wants to rid the game of match-fixing and betting.

“We have been proactive in combating match-fixing and it’s a massive boost to have FIFA agreeing to provide FAM with the EWS,” said Football Malaysia Limited Liability Partnership (FMLLP) Chief Executive Officer Kevin Ramalingam.

FMLLP is a private independent entity which runs the M-League.

FAM had banned 84 players in 1994 for match-fixing. The ban was lifted on May 9.
