M’sian caught trying to smuggle puppies into S’pore

They were found hidden in secret compartment under back seat of car at Woodlands Checkpoint.

Six “cute” puppies were found hidden in a modified compartment of a car at the Woodlands Checkpoint on May 19.

AsiaOne reported that vigilant immigration officers had found the puppies under the back seat at 11.15pm.

The puppies are currently being quarantined at the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority’s Sembawang Animal Quarantine Station for signs of infectious diseases such as rabies.

The authorities are now questioning the motorist, a Malaysian man aged 43, to find out if he had smuggled animals into Singapore before this.

Any illegal import of animals carries a maximum fine of S$10,000 and/or imprisonment of up to a year.
