PETALING JAYA: Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Kuala Lumpur Director Dr Durrishah Idrus has asked to stop sharing the viral photograph of dead cats on the grounds of the campus, denying allegations of mischief towards the animals.

Elaborating on his Facebook page, Durrishah mentioned that the cats might have been bitten by stray dogs.

“What happened was that a group of stray dogs entered the campus, and was then chased out. It happened a day before the cats were found. Plus, there are bite marks on the cats.

“Unfortunately someone with access to the picture spread the story of the cats being poisoned. There has never been an incidents where cats were poisoned in UTM, instead many here are cat lovers,” he said on a Facebook post today.

He also said the person who had spread the false allegations had formally apologised to UTM.

Prior to this, a photo of five dead cats went viral on Facebook, causing a backlash towards UTM as many thought the cats had been poisoned.
