Azalina: It’s not executive branch’s role to decide fate of PAC chairman

KUALA LUMPUR:
It is not the executive branch’s role to decide the status of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said told the Dewan Rakyat today.

Azalina said this was because the PAC is a committee formed under Standing Order 77(1) of the Standing Orders of Parliament

This followed reports that PAC chairman Hasan Arifin had deleted two key sentences from the 1MDB report.

This was a written reply to Lim Kit Siang (DAP-Gelang Patah), who asked whether action would be taken against Hasan for the deletion of the two sentences.

The deleted sentence stated that Bank Negara Malaysia had been informed by the relevant overseas authorities on a voluntary basis that the ultimate beneficiary of Good Star Limited was an individual unrelated to the PetroSaudi group.

Nazri: Hang Tuah mentioned in various Malay literature, historical documents

In an unrelated question, Sim Tong Him (DAP-Kota Melaka) had asked the Minister of Tourism and Culture about the existence of Hang Tuah during the Malacca Sultanate and the results of the ministry’s archaeological studies, and to list all the evidence and artifacts proving the existence of the legendary hero.

“The ministry has conducted archaeological studies in Kota Melaka with the Department of National Heritage and has found artifacts that can be related to his existence. However, archaeological proof of Hang Tuah has not been found,” Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz said in a written reply.

“The ministry has through the National Library found mentions of Hang Tuah in ‘Hikayat Hang Tuah’, ‘Sulalatus Salatin’, and ‘Tuhfat al-Nafis’.

“Documents from other countries that mention Hang Tuah include the ‘Rekidai Hōan’, Vijayanagara’, ‘The Commentaries of the Great Alfonso D’Albuquerque: Second Viceroy of India’, and the Ming Shi documents.”
