KUALA LUMPUR:
A Member of Parliament today suggested that statements by witnesses in cases should be made without them being seen or heard by the accused and their lawyers.

Irmohizam Ibrahim (BN-Kuala Selangor) said this was to tackle the issue of witnesses refusing to give their statements out of fear for their safety.

“I admit some witnesses are afraid to come forward because of security problems, much more so in organised crime cases,” he said when debating the bill on the Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Act 2015 in the Dewan Rakyat.

He also suggested that the voices of the witnesses be changed if they felt their voices could be recognised.

In the meantime, he supported the amendment of the bill which would enable the public to furnish the police with information on the behaviour of intention of any individual to carry out crime, making it possible for them to thwart untoward incidents.
