RMAF jet crashes in padi field, pilots eject to safety

The Air Force's Aermacchi MB339CM encountered technical difficulties during a flight training session before crashing today near Pekan.

PETALING JAYA:
A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) training aircraft, out of the Kuantan air base, crashed near a padi field in Pahang.

Berita Harian reported that the incident happened near Kampung Serum in Pekan.

In a statement by RMAF, it said the aircraft, an Aermacchi MB339CM, encountered technical difficulties during a flight training session at 12.54pm today.

Two pilots in the aircraft sustained injuries after they successfully ejected themselves, the statement said.

RMAF added that an investigation body would be set up to look into the cause of the accident.

The Aermacchi MB339 is a trainer and light attack aircraft.
