KUALA LUMPUR: Enforcement agencies fighting the scourge of illicit drugs should transfer their staff every two years in order to curb corruption, says Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin.

“Officers and staff should be transferred after two years of service, to curb corruption within these enforcement agencies,” he said.

He was speaking during the second reading session of the National Anti-Drugs Agency (Nada) (Amendment) Bill 2016.

He also suggested that the police take stronger action against drug pushers to avoid the young being influenced by drugs.

Bung Moktar said this is because the drugs have reached the remote areas of his constituency in Sabah.

“Buying banana fritters (pisang goreng) is more difficult than buying drugs in Sandakan,” he said in his speech.

In the main debate speech, Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali (Bagan Serai-Umno) said up to 73.43% of AIDS patients last year were drug addicts.

“We have transformed from being a transit nation to a drug producer,” he added.

Noor Azmi urged Nada to treat drug addicts as patients and not to stigmatise them.

“Nada currently targets drug pushers aged between 25 and 29 only.

“However, we know there are schoolchildren as young as Form 3 (age 15) and Form 4 (16) out there distributing drugs as well,” she said.
