Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the pharmaceutical enforcement division had inspected 22 premises selling cosmetics at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. None sold cannabis-laced cosmetic products.
He said ministry officials had been monitoring websites and social media to detect those dealing in such cosmetic products without notification, as well as unregistered medicines online.
“Last year, several websites and Facebook sites selling cosmetics containing cannabis were detected and reported to the police narcotics division,” he said in a statement here on Saturday.
To date, the phramaceuticals division had not received any report on seizure of cannabis in cosmetics, he added.
A senator, Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah, had said in the Dewan Negara on May 3 that cosmetic products such as lipstick, lotion and lip gloss containing cannabis were sold at the airport and online.
However Dr Noor Hisham said cosmetic products were controlled items and their import, manufacturing, sales, supply and possession came under the Control of Drugs and Cosmetics Regulations.
