In a statement today, Chong said it was unhealthy for the chief minister to also be the finance minister as there would be no check on the state Cabinet’s spending.
Even worse was for Adenan to also hold the resources and environment portfolio with control over the forest and land, the state’s two largest and richest natural resources.
Chong said several positions being held by one person would “open oneself to abuse of the power and even corruption”. He said Adenan should not hold the three most important position if he truly wanted a more transparent system in his administration.
He claimed the most obvious example of such unhealthy practice causing damage to the country was that of Najib who is both Prime Minister and Finance Minister.
Adenan took his oaths of office yesterday with the rest of his cabinet following the state’s 11th election held on May 7 which saw BN winning 72 out of the 82 seats in Sarawak.
