Three days ago, the 20-year-old alleged assailant called the police to say he wanted to surrender over the assault on the couple.
He was duly arrested at the Hentian Sebelah Sungkai to facilitate investigations.
Initial investigations revealed the suspect had used a spanner to strike at the 62-year-old woman and her 68-year-old bedridden stroke patient husband.
State Criminal Investigation Department Acting Chief ACP Fadzil Ahmad said the suspect – linked to five robberies – was remanded for a week.
He said the youth, who faced a three-year restraining order over the robberies in Lunas, Kedah, freed himself from an electronic monitoring device (EMD) attached to his ankle after the assault.
In the April 30 incident, the suspect, who lived near the victims’ house, had dropped by on the pretext of asking for a drink before assaulting the couple.
