This was confirmed by Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong when contacted by China Press.
Oh said despite going on leave, Teng would continue to lead the Penang Gerakan and would be notified of any problems that arose during his absence.
Penang Gerakan approved his leave on May 9.
About two weeks ago, an online news portal speculated that Teng was likely to submit a resignation letter during the party’s meeting last Monday. However, he did not.
Teng also denied having any intention of stepping down from his party post, but said he would consider it in the event he became politically irrelevant.
However, the online portal said Teng should restructure Penang Gerakan. Its portal also believed his move to go on leave was likely a way for him to slowly relinquish his post.
