PETALING JAYA: Producer and actor Rosyam Nor was surprised when famous Indian actor Rajinikanth asked him why he had agreed to play a supporting role in the film Kabali.

mStar Online reported that Rosyam, whose real name is Mohamed Noor Shamsuddin, said Rajinikanth asked him this question after finding out that Rosyam was not only an experienced actor but had stared in several films and dramas as well in which he played many lead roles.

“I was surprised that he came to talk to me, and started asking me questions about my career in Malaysia. He asked me why I had agreed to act in the film in a supporting role even though I had experience in acting.

“I told him that working beside him would be considered a great success in my career and an opportunity that might not present itself again,” he told mStar Online.

Apart from Rosyam, two other local actors involved in the film are Norman Hakim and Zack Taipan.

Kabali, filmed mostly in Malaysia, is expected to be screened in cinemas this July. Rajinikanth was surrounded by fans while the film was being shot in Kuala Lumpur.

Rosyam said he had gained a lot of knowledge from Rajinikanth and the film’s production crew.

“I don’t have much dialog but appearing next to Rajinikanth was an experience and exciting for me as an actor.”

He added that he was impressed by the aura of the actor who is loved by many despite being over 60 years old.

“How he has managed to maintain a brand and continue to have such a huge fan-base to the point where filming had to be stopped because too many fans had gathered to meet him is also very impressive, and is something that is rarely seen for an artist his age,” he said.

Rosyam revealed that news of his involvement in Kabali had resulted in him having more fans among the non-Malays.

He sees it as a positive development because he hopes it can attract their interest in watching his future films.

“I was shocked at first when many non-Malay fans started to follow my Twitter and Instagram accounts. To me, it is a positive development not only for my career but for the local film industry,” he said.

As of today, Kabali’s teaser trailer has been seen by 16 million viewers on YouTube since its launch on April 30.
