The ministry, in its statement yesterday, explained that Minister Idris Jusoh met unofficially with UEC operators in Kuching last March to iron out details and listen to their views.
“The minister stressed that the current policy is still in effect and that the UEC must accept the current requirements and policies of the ministry regarding admission requirements for public universities,” the statement said.
The statement was issued following a report in The Star daily on May 8 which quoted Deputy Education Minister Chong Sin Woon as saying, “The UEC is set to be recognised by the government very soon.”
UEC is a standard test for students of private Chinese high schools organised by Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia).
