Poverty, Caring Government and Plantation Workers Committee Chairman V Ganabatirau said the state government had issued two notices on the matter – in July 2014 and January 2016.
Around 50 residents, led by National MIC Youth chief C Sivarraajh, had gathered peacefully earlier today in front of the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah building in Shah Alam to protest the government’s sudden demolition of the houses yesterday in Kampung Seri Aman.
Sivarraajh had alleged that around 150 of the villagers had not been given notices of eviction but the authorities had moved in to demolish the houses.
Three MIC leaders, K Parthiban, R Arvind and D Kajendran, were arrested while attempting to halt the demolition.
Some of the villagers, including former estate workers, had claimed they had been staying there for 50 years.
Ganabatirau told FMT via WhatsApp that only four houses and three small places of worship inside the homes were demolished.
He said the 30 house owners there had been asked to relocate to houses and land provided by the state government, with some having moved there since 2013.
The Kota Alam Shah assemblyman said only four house owners had refused the offer of two housing and farmland lots offered by the developer of the affordable housing project.
They had also refused the RM5,000 compensation offered to them, he added.
“The National Economic Action Council had ordered that the four houses on the government road reserve be compensated accordingly.”
Ganabatirau said for the moment, the remaining 26 houses would not be demolished.
