Law said Teh Yee Cheu’s motion was not drafted according to normal conventions.
“His motion was rejected due to wrong citation that was non-relevant to house rules. He can resubmit the motion in the next round.
“I have also advised him on how to get it right the next time around,” he said when met by reporters after the opening of the assembly by the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Abdul Rahman Abbas today.
Earlier, Teh told reporters that he was not disappointed with the rejection of his proposed motion and vowed to try again during the next sitting.
Teh had proposed that the tenure for the post of chief minister be limited to two terms.
This was the second time he had made such a proposal, with the earlier one obtaining more “nays” than “yeas” in the assembly.
He said a term limit for the office of chief minister was needed to rejuvenate the leadership and avoid cronyism.
Meanwhile, Law said he had rejected six proposed motions in total, including Teh’s, on the grounds of technicality.
“I have approved one proposal by Pulau Betong (Umno assemblyman Muhammad Farid Saad),” he said.
Farid’s proposed motion is to “urge the state government to cancel reclamation works involving some 4,000 acres at the south of Penang Island and seek alternative financing for the RM27 billion Penang Transport Master Plan”.
