PETALING JAYA:
The United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong) wants a tripartite meeting to discuss the recognition of the United Examination Certificate (UEC), Borneo Post reported.

Dong Zong president Vincent Lau was quoted as saying he had written to Education Minister Mahdzir Khalid and Higher Education Minister Idris Jusoh for the meeting.

“We are hoping our request for the meeting will materialise soon, so that we will be moving a step forward towards recognition of UEC,” Lau told the daily.

According to Lau, the review of some subjects in the curriculum had already been talked about for some time.

This includes reviewing the History and Bahasa Malaysia syllabus, he said.

Currently, UEC, which is recognised in some 200 top universities worldwide, including 80 of the top ranking institutions of higher learning, is only recognised at state-level in Malaysia.
