Enforcement head Abdul Rahman Hassan said that the department inspected the food court and business premises at the shopping centre and checked more than 100 foreigners.
The large-scale operation began at 11.30am and involved all Immigration enforcement officers from Penang, Kedah, Perlis and Perak. They wore civilian attire and posed as customers, he said.
“The foreigners were unaware of the presence of Immigration enforcement officers and did not have time to escape as soon as we introduced ourselves and during the inspection, 58 of those checked were detained,” he told reporters today.
He said the department detained 47 men and 11 women comprising Nepalese, Bangladeshi and Indonesian nationals for not having travel documents, overstaying and abuse of the social visit pass.
