PUTRAJAYA: Former Solicitor-General Azailiza Mohd Ahad has opted for early retirement from her post in the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

Her place has been taken over by Engku Nor Faizah Engku Atek, who was Solicitor-General II.

Chief Secretary to the Government Ali Hamsa said Azailiza did not resign from her post.

“It was an early retirement basically. She wanted to opt out just like any other civil servant. They have the right to wait until 60 to retire or opt after 50.

“It is just normal because she has other plans to pursue”, he said during the Association of Diplomatic and Administration Service annual general meeting here today.

He hastened to add, however, that she was ‘still in service’. “I don’t know what her plans are, but right now she is taking care of a lot of government business, a lot of international, legal matters,” he added.

The Attorney-General’s Chambers’ official portal, under the photo gallery, shows Azailiza clocking off for the last time on April 8, 2016. She was appointed on Nov 1, 2014.

A small gathering was held as she clocked off on her last day of service.

The Solicitor-General serves as the public prosecutor in the absence of the Attorney-General.
