Muara Tuang villager praises BN ahead of S’wak polls

Villager says she is grateful to the BN-led government for paving roads in her village of Kampung Baru.

Muara-Tuang
SAMARAHAN: While the Opposition sees only flaws in the Federal Government’s administration led by Prime Minister Najib Razak, some of the residents of Kampung Baru, Muara Tuang here have a completely different opinion altogether on the matter.

After decades of living without much development, one Kampung Baru villager who preferred not to be named, said many in her village were immensely grateful for the roads they now enjoyed thanks to the efforts of the Barisan Nasional-led government.

Expressing gratitude to BN and Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem as well as his predecessor Taib Mahmud, she said she and her family were now living rather comfortably, since the new roads in her village made it easier for villagers to commute to and fro every day.

“The development in this village is great. Look at the roads. Before this, no cars could travel here. With this new road, the residents can finally buy their own cars as we have good roads to travel on now,” she told FMT when met at her convenience store here.

When asked about her thoughts regarding those who expressed dissatisfaction with the government, she said they were ungrateful as they had received all kinds of Federal Government aid.

“Those who support PAS and Amanah here also received (1Malaysia People’s Aid) BR1M as well as hundreds of ringgit in school aid for their children every year. These people are shameless,” said the forty-something old woman.

Most villagers here work in construction or farming and the few met by FMT said they were grateful to BN for all the facilities they now enjoyed.

Another villager, Samad Bujang, 75, said, he also received farmers’ aid from the government, which he used to purchase fertiliser, equipment and pesticide for his corn fields every year.

Since he now lives alone with his wife, Samad was appreciative of the government’s help as being a farmer at such an old age was posing a rather big challenge for him, he said.

He also revealed however that for the first time, he was unsure of which party to vote for come May 7.

“I received aid from the government but it was not enough. My corn field is not that big, but I can’t always sell my crops. These developments that we have received are actually very recent and it’s because of the election.

“So this time, I really don’t know who to vote yet. All this while I was a strong BN and PBB supporter, but now, I just don’t know.

“The BN candidate for this area hasn’t showed-up yet but the PAS candidate had already come here and listened to our grouses,” Samad told FMT when met.

Muara Tuang will see a three-cornered fight between BN candidate Idris Buang, PAS candidate Zulkipli Ramzi and Parti Amanah Negara candidate Abang Abdul Halil Abang Naili in the state election.
