KUCHING:
The PKR candidate in Batu Lintang has denied sending out text messages that Chief Minister Adenan Satem had paid the ransom for four Sarawakian sailors kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf gunmen last month.

The candidate, See Chee How, said he believed the mobile phone of his campaign assistant had been hacked, Star Online reported. The aide, party worker Liza Bong Ai Lee, lodged a police report on Saturday night.

“We want to make it clear that it is not from PKR,” See said today according to the report.

In her report Bong said her phone had been “hacked or manipulated in some way to send out messages” and that she had been receiving messages from unknown persons about the purported ransom payment.

The four Sarawakian sailors were kidnapped from a tugboat off Semporna by gunmen on April 1 and taken to southern Philippines.

The terrorists are believed to have demanded payment of RM30 million for the release of their captives.
