Chong: SUPP failed, even with deputy CM

KUCHING:
Chinese in Sarawak will not gain anything even if a representative from SUPP is chosen as deputy chief minister, said state DAP leader Chong Chieng Jen.

He said the appointment, should it happen, would only serve to benefit SUPP president Dr Sim Kui Hian.

“SUPP (candidate) as the DCM (deputy chief minister) has no bearing or bring any good for the Chinese,” he said.

He further claimed that during the time an SUPP member was DCM before, issues such as Chinese school funding and expired land lease were not solved.

“Many owners faced the problem of trying to develop their land but they could not do so because the land titles expired. This problem existed during the era when SUPP was DCM,” he said.

Chong also alleged that there were about 25,000 postal voters in the state who are not Sarawakians.

“Adenan said Sarawakians should chose their state representatives. However there are 25,000 voters who are army officers and their spouses registered as electoral voters,” he claimed.

Chong said they are not born Sarawakians and they should not be allowed to vote.

“Adenan is practising double standard, he forbids opposition Peninsular leaders but at the same time he allows non-Sarawakians to vote,” he said, accusing Adenan of using autonomy over Immigration to suit his own convenience and protect his own interest.
