PKR claims it is more popular than DAP in Batu Kitang

The claim by Voon Shiak Ni of PKR however contradicts a Merdeka Center survey that shows DAP enjoys greater support among Dayaks and Chinese in the constituency.

KUCHING:
PKR Batu Kitang candidate Voon Shiak Ni has slammed the DAP for fielding Abdul Aziz Isa to contest against her in the upcoming Sarawak election as her party was more popular than theirs in that particular constituency.

She said the move was unnecessary as survey findings by the Merdeka Center clearly showed PKR had more support in the area than DAP did.

“DAP sending Aziz for Batu Kitang is very unnecessary as there was a public poll done between Aziz and me. We (PKR) won the poll.

“And I don’t think it was a good move for DAP to send Aziz if they are focused on going against BN,” added Voon at a press conference at the PKR operations centre here today.

However, Voon’s claim was in clear contradiction of actual Merdeka Center survey findings that showed the DAP enjoyed overwhelming support in the Batu Kitang constituency, more than PKR did.

Asked to comment on this, Voon kept mum, prompting PKR Vice-President Dr Xavier Jayakumar, who was present, to interject by saying the survey findings were no longer an important point.

“Yes, some polls were done and we have the results, but it doesn’t matter now as it is all water under the bridge. Our candidates are all prepared and we want people to judge our candidates based on what they have done.

“We will not in any way intimidate our partners in Pakatan Harapan,” he said.

Voon meanwhile conceded that the people were indeed disappointed with the PKR-DAP feud over seat allocations and said she, herself had not expected it would have taken such a bad turn.

Voon however said her election campaign would be focused solely on fighting the ruling coalition of Barisan Nasional.
