PETALING JAYA:
Two legislators in Penang have spoke out about their frustrations at being unable to help their constituents through the state government and local councils.

One assembly member said her motions to the state assembly had been rejected 13 times since 2013. Another said nothing had been done despite her speaking out in the state assembly for eight years.

PKR’s Dr Norlela Ariffin, the assembly member for Penanti, said: “I do not know why my motions were thrown out so many times but it will not stop me from speaking up for the people who face flash floods and power outages in the rural areas”, according to NST Online.

Speaking at a public dialogue entitled “ADUN Buat Apa (What Do State Assembly Members Do)”, Norlela complained that the state government allocation for her constituency was too small for her to address the two problems. “I have to right the wrongs by moving motions but even such requests are turned down,” she said.

The DAP’s Lydia Ong Kok Fooi, who is assembly member for Berapit, said nothing had been done despite speaking out in the state assembly.

After working around the clock for eight years, she still had no say in issues about traffic congestion and poor planning permission by the local council. “I have voiced out the constituency people’s grouses at the state assembly but sadly nothing has been carried out,” she said, NST Online reported.
