Adenan made this promise as he spoke in front of around 40,000 people present at final leg of the Sejiwa Senada tour here this morning.
He said throughout his years in politics, he had assumed various roles including state and federal minister, member of Parliament and since 2014, the chief minister of the country’s largest state.
“The next one of course is the post of Sarawak governor but I don’t plan on taking it up,” he said.
The two previous chief ministers, Abdul Rahman Yakub, and Abdul Taib Mahmud, had both taken on the role of Governor (Yang Dipertua Negeri) of the state upon retirement.
Adenan took over as chief minister in 2014 when Taib stepped down. He is standing for re-election at the state elections on May 7.
At the Sejiwa Senada event, with his wife Jamilah Anu in attendance, the chief minister entertained the crowd with songs which included “The Young Ones” and “Getaran Jiwa”.
The public’s love for him was visible as they sang along with him in sheer excitement.
Adenan then told them that he would continue to fight for greater empowerment for the state, and will remain persistent in his effort to gain more benefits and royalty among others, its oil industry.
Sarawakians will head to the polls this coming May 7 to vote for the 11th state election. Adenan had repeatedly pleaded with the voters to give him the mandate to serve them for one more term.
