According to a Borneo Post Online report, Liu Thian Leong has resigned from UPP to contest in Batu Kawah.
The former UPP Batu Kawah chairman had been active on the ground in the area in anticipation of being fielded as a Barisan Nasional candidate.
However, the seat was allocated to SUPP president Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, and with Liu entering the race, the battle for Batu Kawah would most likely be a three way one between Sim, Liu and DAP’s incumbent for the seat, Christina Chiew.
Meanwhile, in Sarikei, it was reported that former DAP branch secretary Wong Ching King was set to stand in Repok, after he bought a nomination form and paid his deposit to contest.
Ching King quit the party earlier this week, citing the “autocratic style” of some state DAP leaders as the reason for his resignation.
However, it is believed that Ching King quit after he was not picked to contest the Repok seat, where Yong Siew Wei would stand for DAP.
With Ching King joining the fray, the Repok contest would see a three-cornered fight between Ching King, Yong and SUPP’s Huang Tiong Sii.
