Sarawak DAP Chairman Chong Chieng Jen said that PKR should honour the original agreement decided by the national leadership.
“Depends. If they (PKR) don’t abide by the agreement, then we’ll see how it goes. We may even contest in Batu Kitang,” he was quoted as saying in a report in Malay Mail Online.
The Batu Kitang seat, carved out of two DAP constituencies, Batu Kawah and Kota Sentosa, has long been eyed by the DAP.
The party had even named one of its rising stars, Abdul Aziz Isa, as a potential candidate for the seat, but ceded it to PKR as part of the agreement.
Chong, the Kota Sentosa assemblyman, said it would be selfish and undisciplined of PKR to renege on the seat deal as DAP had agreed to make compromises for the sake of its Pakatan Harapan coalition allies.
PKR is expected to reveal its list of candidates tomorrow, even as DAP named 29 of their 30 candidates yesterday.
Recently, Sarawak PKR Chief Baru Bian voiced his dissatisfaction that national DAP and PKR leaders, namely DAP Secretary-General Lim Guan Eng and PKR Deputy President Azmin Ali had strayed from the seat allocations agreed to by the Sarawak DAP and PKR chapters.
Baru had said he would veto the seat negotiations decided by the national leaders.
Should he do so, this will result in multi-cornered fights between Barisan Nasional, DAP, PKR and other candidates in at least five seats.
