“There is a movement to back BN among the Chinese community.
“The question is not whether there is any… definitely there is, but whether that is enough to steal the ballots for BN,” he told reporters after attending the KTS Group staff gathering here today.
Asked on how many of the 16 Chinese-majority seats would be delivered to BN, the Sarawak BN chairman said: “Several … you know what several means. It doesn’t mean a few.”
On when he would announce other potential direct BN candidates from the United People’s Party (UPP), Adenan said he would do so when the time comes.
He had already announced the first one, Jerip Susil, who will contest in the Mambong state.
“There must be a fair distribution. One is good but not enough. But I cannot be particular about it (now). The time will come for me to announce it.”
According to him, he would announce the candidates for Dudong, Bawang Assan and Meradong in due time before the nomination day.
On whether the recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate, offered by independent Chinese schools, would lead to the abolition of the Bumiputera special rights by the state government, he said the government had no intention of doing so as it was part of the country’s Constitution.
