GEORGE TOWN:
A 34-year-old Road Transport Department officer was seriously hurt after her husband attacked her with a samurai sword in Penaga, near Butterworth, last night.

In the 7.30pm incident, the enraged 33-year-old man attacked his wife in full view of his three young children in a jealous fit.

She sustained injuries to her head, shoulder and arms.

Police sources close to the investigation said the woman was rushed to the Kepala Batas Hospital by her neighbour.

The woman is reported to be stable and is now receiving treatment at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.

A neighbour told Utusan Online that shortly after the incident, the victim’s husband “escaped” with his children, aged nine, six and five, in his Proton Waja.

The neighbour alleged the man was a drug addict and saw the Proton headed towards Kuala Muda.

Seberang Perai Utara police chief ACP Azmi Adam told Utusan that police will mount a search for the suspect and the children.

The man was terminated from his job a couple of years ago, Azmi told the portal.
