This is the question lawyer Siti Kasim asked after posting a video of the fracas which occurred after religious authorities raided a closed-door dinner hosted by the transgender community over the weekend.
In the three-minute clip posted on her Facebook page, Siti alongside other transgenders were seen embroiled in a shouting match with officers from the Federal Territories Islamic Department (Jawi), when she demanded to be shown their warrant to conduct the raid.
The lawyer also demanded to know what the transgenders had done wrong to necessitate the raid.
Towards the end of the video, a man, believed to be a media personnel recording the shouting match was asked to leave the area.
In the video’s description, Siti says it was obvious Jawi came to disrupt the fundraising event and sensationalised it by bringing the media with them on the raid.
She also posted a link to another video of the incident which was published by a media outlet, taking offence at the video’s (Pondan maki JAWI) title and description.
“Now we know who is that person who videoed the incident and who he works for.
“I can assure you, all of them will get the full force of law including this guy who gatecrashed the event and the news channel that put this up. Be ready.”
Siti reiterated that when she asked the Jawi officers what offence the transgenders had committed, the response they got was that they had organised a ‘Miss World’ contest.
“I would not want to undermine their intelligence but if they cannot differentiate between a show and a real beauty contest, then they need to pray harder.”
Siti called on the people to stand up for their rights and not allow anyone to be bullied under the pretext of religion.
Yesterday, it was reported that Siti, who was also picked up by Jawi officers during the raid, clarified that the event was only a dinner where the transgenders present paraded like beauty pageant contestants in a show.
She said the dinner was meant to raise funds for charity.
