News of the explosion began spreading on Twitter at around 10.30am with pictures showing the damage caused to the restaurant.
There was also another picture showing the restaurant being cordoned off by security tape.
When contacted, a Mid Valley Megamall spokesperson confirmed the incident, saying it occurred at 9.45am, before business hours.
The spokesperson said those injured in the incident required outpatient treatment.
In a statement, issued by the mall later, it explained that a minor explosion occurred at two food and beverage outlets during re-instatement work of its liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) system.
“There were minor injuries to our maintenance staff, LPG contractor and tenant staff. Medical treatment is already being given. There were no fatalities, neither were there any injuries to the public,” the statement read.
The mall also said it was working with the relevant authorities and have shut all gas systems in Mid Valley Megamall until further notice.
The mall, however, will remain open to visitors.
Meanwhile, the Malay Mail Online quoted a Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson who revealed eight people were injured in the incident.
