Shazni made the denial after the Inspector-General of Police ordered action against “this seditious person” by the cyber crimes unit for remarks attributed to him by an unknown website Bicara News.
He said the report at Bicara News had quoted him entirely differently from his remarks in an article published at Free Malaysia Today.
The FMT report on March 31 had raised the issue of the Goods and Services Tax which he said had burdened the rakyat in the past year, and he had urged the people to join a public rally against GST and against the Prime Minister, Najib Razak, which was held today.
“I deny the slanderous comments made by www.bicara.news about my article,” he said in a statement today. He was reportedly quoted as saying that the Barisan Nasional could not be toppled through elections but only through large-scale street demonstrations.
Shazni said the IGP should have first checked the source of information before giving any instructions. “Giving instructions based on a wrong source of information is a persecution against me as a citizen,” he was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini.
The IGP should have been more professional and not given instructions on Twitter based on some “unknown portal”, he was reported to have said. Shazni confirmed with Malaysiakini that he had yet to be contacted by the police on the matter.
