KUALA LUMPUR:
Wan Shades, the lead singer of “Shades”, a music group of the 1990s, today filed a defamation suit against the owner of entertainment blog, RotiKaya.com, over a rape allegation in an article published four years ago.

Wan Shades, whose real name is Mohamad Faizal Mohd Ali, 43, filed the suit through Messrs Mohd Irwan Mohd Mubarak at the Civil High Court Registrar’s Office here, and named Nor Hamzie Md Hambali, 31, as the defendant.

In his statement of claim, Mohamed Faizal claimed that on Feb 20, 2012, Nor Hamzie had published a defamatory article in the blog, implying that the plaintiff had raped his own step-daughter.

Mohamad Faizal claimed that the words published, which could be read free of charge by Internet users, clearly referred to him, especially with his real name and picture attached to the article.

The singer claimed the words implied that he was the main suspect in the stepdaughter-rape case, which could not possibly be true as he did not even have a stepdaughter as claimed by the defendant.

Mohamad Faizal, who is also the Gombak District Silat Seni Gayung Malaysia deputy chief, claimed that he had never been called by the police to be investigated or charged in any court on any incident for rape as alleged by the defendant.

He also claimed that the defendant had never sought confirmation from him before publishing the article.

He is seeking RM1 million in compensation, damages, costs and other relief deemed fit by the court.
